02.08.13 - Friday

Tonight at 6:09pm, you and I finally met.

Welcome to this crazy world little man.

You are all I have pictured the last few months. I've counted your fingers and toes and kissed your eyes and nose and found you perfect in all aspects.

Sydney Alexander. Sydney for my grandfather (your Nana's father), a gentle, Christian man who also lived in a houseful of girls--four daughters, one wife, and his mother-in-law! Mountain climber, avid rose gardener, lover of nature, and a man worth living up to in all ways. Sydney comes either from Old English and means "wide meadow" or "wide island" or from the French, supposedly from St. Denys (Dionysius)-- a Bishop of Paris in the third century. I particularly like the Greek meaning of Dionysius which means "divinely touched."

Alexander is from the Greek and means "defender or protector of men" or "warrior". We've liked the diminutive Zander for years and years, so it was an easy choice from the beginning.

At 8.5lbs and 21.5inches, you are already distinctly different from your tiny older sister. Brown eyes--shall they stay that color or change to blue like the rest of the family?

You've already earned yourself a nickname of personality--Little Piggy. You spent a good amount of time rooting and snuffling around finding milk last night, sounding exactly like a little pig with your snorts and grunts! I love you my little man.
