Second Birthday Party - I made you an elephant cake (in honor of our recent trip to Thailand and memories of riding on elephants, etc. We had a small party with our cottage girls and also our former girls from the "big girls cottage." Oh, and of course Mr. Julio, Ms. Kathi, and Caleb--because they've been in your life since you were born. Which is pretty amazing considering we've moved states since then!

You are spoiled.

Several stuffed animals (your favorite being Cookie Monster--in fact, you now will demand "Cookie" before going to sleep).

A new outfit

Elephant puzzle with Alphabet/Numbers on it

Wooden car hauler with several other cars on top

Several car/train related items (including new wooden train tracks)

the first Psalty CD (which is now a favorite with both you and your sister)

02.20.14

Last night, in the middle of the night, you were upset about life or something. So I went in and we had a cuddle and chat. When you settled back down into your little bed, I had to giggle for you grabbed your (hard plastic, electric) Thomas Train and snuggled down to sleep with him held tightly to your chest. "Thomas," you informed me gravely. "Thomas Train."

There is a little song that both your daddy and I grew up singing in our homes. It's from a children's CD called The Music Machine. And the song is all about having patience.

Have patience. Have patience.
Don't be in such a hurry.
When you get impatient, you only start to worry.

Remember, remember, that God is patient too,
And think of all the times that others had to wait for you.

The irony of this song is that you have decided you really, really like the song...and when you ask me to sing it to you, you get extremely impatient if I don't do so on your immediate command of, "Again!"

Well little man, you are officially a world traveler. Technically, you were a world traveler before you were ever born. I was six months pregnant with you when we traveled to England for a vacation, but this time is more official as you actually got a stamp in your passport to prove your travel.

Thailand and you got along just fine. You loved the foods and weather and all the things we did. Little phased you, even being hugged by an elephant. And of course having Nana and Papa at your beck and call was a delight.

And you also did very well on the airplanes themselves--as well as can be expected of any child in 33+ hours of travel.

However, jet lag and you are not good friends. Which is making jet lag and mommy and daddy not good friends either. Last night you were up for several hours between 11pm and almost 2am. Happy as a clam. Playing hard. Requesting second dinner. This is not a good plan, young man. Must stop.

The key to defeating jet lag, little mister, is to fight the confusion and sleep when you're supposed to sleep. Which I suppose is something you've never been particularly good at in the last few years....so perhaps it shouldn't surprise me that beating this is not going well.

Oh well, the price we pray for broadened horizons I suppose.

You are all about trains currently. We went Thomas the Train Engine heavy for Christmas (mommy scored a number of free/very cheap free-to-us train, videos, and wooden train tracks), so we added a beautifully soft blanket (you were coveting your sister's Frozen blanket that is luxuriously soft).

Daddy wasn't convinced that trains were the right way to go, but mommy won and has proved right. You love your "twain" that goes "choo choo!" Building huge lines of trains and learning to put the tracks together yourself.

Your birthday is coming up. I foresee the need for more wooden tracks and possibly more cars to connect to the engines. Shhh...don't tell!

This Christmas has brought you a love of opening presents. You've definitely got the idea of this down and were determined to get into those gifts with gusto. Or simply sit on them if they weren't cooperating otherwise....

Possible favorite gift....Auntie Becca's new sweater...

Words! Sentences! Conversations! The flood of language is almost impossible to keep up with right now, my little man. Your navigation of the world of communication has tripled in speed, overnight so it seems. It's like your brain has finally wrapped itself around the fact that it can utilize all the sounds it is familiar with to explain everything that you want.

Mind you, the answer "no" to anything still is rather upsetting to you; however, even your fits over that have begun to decrease in strength and length. (Thank you for that small blessing).

At dinner tonight, you have finally determined that "more please" is a great phrase to use. And you use it to get all the food you can--even before you have any to begin with. Which was rather amusing to everybody involved.

"More please," as I dish out firsts to everyone.

"More please," as the salt is passed around the table.

"More please," (with a full bowl of food) as the salad goes around (you didn't eat much of that though...).

"More please."

I love talking to you.
